Backstory: Born to a relatively wealthy family of mages in Brooklyn. In fact, her family is entirely made up of mages and they pride themselves in that fact. She was raised New York City's elitist magical community. Home-schooled and secluded from the world at large.

Much as they tried, her parents had also failed in their attempts. Weighed down by her family's expectations, Leilani often snuck her way out of the house, tricking the alarms. It was during one of her late-night jaunts when she met Julian, the boy who changed her life.

He taught her about music, movies, television, and the normal human world. And most of all, he taught her about love. At the tender age of twelve, Leilani had become the exact opposite of her parents' unnaturally high expectations for their children.

When she was sixteen, Julian died in a car accident. Since then, Leilani has had an intense hatred for cars and she has sworn to never fall in love with another man. Her rebelliousness grew and, in a last desperate attempt at reigning in their troublesome daughter, the Shiratori family decided to send their daughter to St. Catherine's.

Sample LJ Post: Leilani sighed. Her gum had already lost its flavor. A shame.... Long lasting? Ha! What had ever happened to truth in advertising? Obviously, that was a complete lie. But what was new?

"Don't do it, Leilani."

A smirk emerged at the edges of her lips. Well, wasn't that just asking for it? "Such a convincing argument. I believe you've converted me from my evil ways, Florian," she chuckled. Now, if he hadn't said anything, she wouldn't have done anything. Honestly, adding a bit of taste to old gum wasn't worth the effort. But if it meant bothering one of her brothers, she was all for it.

She placed two fingers against her temple and kicked it back, mimicking a gunshot to the head. Click... A simple adjustment to the electricity flow between the neurotransmitters in her brain. Like rewiring a computer...except not at all. Whatever, finding the proper metaphor wasn't important. What was important... "Was this gum always grape?"

"Mom and Pops aren't going to be happy about this," her younger brother said, wringing his hands nervously.

The girl ignored him and chewed idly on the wad of gum pressed against the side of her mouth. In all honesty, she didn't like grape. But some sacrifices just had to be made....
